Being canon for a moment, all residential and commerical buildings on Mars have 1g drives installed as standard precisely because a constant 0.38g could be fatally unhealthy, (though we don't know for sure what would happen, irl, we only know what happens under micro-gravity).
When the characters step outside into 0.38g they can jump a little higher, though not that much; you and I could only jump about 1.8m straight up on Mars.
I should point out he's an X-dog, a synthetic, so he was made super-strong regardless.
