I often wonder if the coyotes living up here in the hills above Pasadena understand the concept of singing in Harmony. I swear that there are times these crafty canines can do three part howling that makes it sound like there's more coyotes than one can hear. So why not? As long as there's someone or something to howl with, they'll make their own kind of "Music".
Yep every unit needs a mascot... to bad this little guy's life ended to soon.
Where I use to live it was fun to hear the coyotes start a howl, after say 15 to 30 seconds one of a friend's wolves would let go with a howl by their second breath the whole pack was howling. When the wolves were done not a coyote was heard. It seemed the alphas had a smile on their nuzzles... they knew the coyotes were the JV team at best.

Jeep's from Nebraska, and I own several pelts from Grand Island Taxidermy--probably relatives of his. Paid $20-$22 apiece for them. Here in MI, they're hunted 24/7. Haven't seen one in almost two years. Identified coyote spoor on a friend's land 80 miles north of home.
Midland County, where I work, has a number of sheep, alpaca, and mini farms. Plus quite a few horse stables.

I've heard that using livestock guardian animals and electric fencing is more effective at controlling the coyotes through training them what they can't touch, than eradication, because once you achieve detente with the local pack, they'll keep out interlopers. Keep killing off the locals and you'll have an endless parade of incoming newcomers hungry for livestock.
