Homestuck has a lot of good going for it, but also a lot of less than stellar stuff. It just comes with the bigger scope of the story, I think.

nah, I didn't read the Epilogues 'cause they sounded really dark and mean-spirited and I kinda can't handle putting that stuff in my brain
and it seems like ^2 picks up from those, so I think I'm just not interested

Hm, seen that way, yup. They do pick up the dark side of all the story.
I do feel it's like the kids growing up a bit and noticing all the fridge nightmare-fuel their -existence- implies.

But yeh, sounds like it wouldn't be the tone for you~! ^^
