And here it is the final story of the decade! And man what a decade it's been eh? Hope you all have enjoyed watching this little superhero universe of mine start it's journey's to being something decent and readable.
I'll be giving proper thanks in a journal, to mark out the end of the decade. But for now, hope you all enjoy this small little bit, taking place after the first battle with Elementala.
Have a happy new year!
As the car pulled up into the empty car-park, the driver put in park and turned the ignition, killing the engine as he let out a tired sigh. The middle aged Pine Marten took a drink from his disposable cup of coffee as he rubbed his eyes with the other hand. It was becoming a bit more of a chore to keep getting out of bed and coming here, he needed to get more help that’s for sure. Pulling the key out, he was soon out of the car, stretching as he felt his joints pop back into place.
After a few minutes, making sure the car was closed and locked, Clark stood in front of the alley door into his bakery as he worked in his mind just what he needed to do. He needed some more help that’s for sure. Grumbling a bit he decided to focus on getting the door open, forgetting for a moment he had an extra lock installed since the attempted robbery. Sure it made him feel better then some punks will not try to stick him up, but as he grumbled more, trying to get the keys into the hole and not spill his coffee, it was a pain on morning’s like this.
With a grumble he felt the keys slip from his grip and clattering onto the ground, the pine marten letting out a frustrated sigh. As he took a step back, he saw a hand covered in white fur pick up the keys as he became aware of someone standing next to him. “Been a while, hasn’t it Mr. Riccon.”
“Well, I never thought I’d see your face again” there was a slight pause before he added. “Well, sides on the news. But it’s good to see you again, Whitescar.”
The unicorn-fox smiled as she nodded, “I’ve been a bit busy.” She turns and opens the door, before handing the keys back. “Lest I can do to give a hand.” The pine marten smiles softly a bit, before heading inside, turning to glance back at the super-heroine.
“You can come in. My door is always open for you” he replied, as he walked further in, placing the coffee down before turning on the lights. Whitescar following behind him, glancing around and taking note of some things like a new security camera system, extra locks on the alley door. Seems like he was shaken up after that incident, not that the hybrid could blame him as she glanced to seeing him walk back in, lights on and the computer in what passed as an office turned on.
“I see some things have changed.”
“I didn’t want to take any chances of being jumped again. Makes me feel a bit safer.”
Whitescar could only nod slightly, as she took a seat watching the pine marten as he went about his morning routine. The sound of keys of a keyboard typing was faintly heard, followed by some grunting. Followed by a sigh, as the middle aged man got back up and started to turn on the oven, getting ingredients ready as he started to make new bread and pastries for the day. He seemed to of forgotten about his guest, Whitescar figuring he was use to doing this until his employees came, at least she thought he had employees.
“Mr. Riccon… I’ve got to admit there is another reason why I came here today” the super-heroine finally, causing him to look towards her with a quizzical look.
“Oh?”
“Yeah. I came to well. To thank you.”
“Thank me? I should be the one thanking you!”
The super-heroine tilted her head in a nod as she got back up, walking towards the shop owner. “Of course. Before I came here, I was lost, confused. You showed me kindness, and while not the best time, gave me a purpose, when I saved you with that spell.” She lifted her hand, bringing out a blue aura of magical energy, looking it over before dispelling it. The unicorn-fox glanced up at Clark with a small smirk, seeing his stunned expression. “I’m still learning only know a few spells.”
“The ones you’ve used against…. Ugh… what were their names again….?”
“Well the lynx at the bank called himself Void Master. And well, there’s Elementala.”
“Oh right. Should be easy to remember….” the pine marten trailed off and shook his head as he went about, making more food for the day. “Honestly it’s all surreal still.”
“Oh? How so?” Whitescar asked, tilting her head in confusion.
“Superheroes and super-villains! It’s the stuff you see in cartoons, comics or movies. It’s just…. Well as I said before… and I guess a sign that the world is gonna be changing.”
The super-heroine nodded sombrely, she knew what may happen soon. If those books she’s been reading are any indication. “Because of me, more will show up to challenge me. More super-villains. I have no doubt of that.”
“But...” Clark spoke up, turning to face her. “I may not of been too huge into that stuff. But I do know that the chances of other Superheroes will rise out of the shadows to help you. I wouldn’t worry about it, I mean… ok, personally the idea is scary of two supervillains out there, both on the run. But I’ve got faith that you will be able to handle them, and if more keep popping up, well as said you will be getting allies as well.”
Another moment of silence past as the super-heroine stood there, as his words registered in her mind. “I hope so, I don’t know how long I’d be able to do it by myself” she muttered, glancing around a bit.
“Anyway, I guess we are both thankful for that week” he replied, changing the subject to something less worrying.
“Agreed. Oh, that reminds me, another reason why I came here.”
“Oh? What’s this other reason?”
“Well, I want to know if that ‘Help Wanted’ position was still open.”
“You want a job here?!” Clark exclaimed, whirling around as he stared at the costumed lady, eyes wide in surprise.
“No, not me. Just, I helped this woman a while back. Kind of down on her luck, just barely living day to day and she needs a job. You and this store came to mind, I’m not saying you should. But just give a poor lady a chance. You did with me” she reminded, watching the pine marten as he nodded his head slowly.
“Alright. I’ll give her a shot” he replied, an ear flicking as he said that.
Whitescar’s fluffy fox tail started to wag slightly as she grinned. “Thank you. I’m sure you will not regret it! I’ll be sure to send her your way later today, but for now. I’ve got a city to patrol!” And with a flutter of her cape, she headed back out the side door, closing it behind her as she did. Clark Riccon stared for a moment, before shaking his head softly with an almost amused smile.
It was halfway through the day as the shop went about, the few employees he did have were doing their jobs. The sound of the front door opening caught his attention as it had throughout the day, seeing a grey furred mare step in and look around. “I hope I’m in the right place.”
Stepping up, Amynta glanced around, as she leaned towards counter. “Ah… I was supposed to meet a Mr. Riccon?” she said, looking towards the rabbit who nodded.
A few minutes later and she was sitting in the back with the pine marten. “I’m guessing you were the one Whitescar was talking about?”
“Yes, sir. I am, I’m sure she’d explain my situation.”
“A bit yeah, but I get what she means.”
“I don’t have much skills, but I’m willing to learn. But I can start up with cleaning up.”
“Heh, I do like your enthusiasm. I’ll give you a try, I owe Whitescar that much.”
“Oh, thank you!” Amynta exclaimed jumping up from the seat, a big grin spread across her muzzle. “But, I must say… I do hope to have a part time job.”
“Oh?” Clark raised an eyebrow at this, wondering why she choose until now to say it.
“Yeah, in case I have to leave at erratic times, hope you don’t mind. But I'll try my best to be here when I can!”
The pine marten studied her for a minute, before a small smile crossed his own face. “Of course, it shouldn’t be a problem. Welcome on-board Amynta” he added, reaching over to shake her hand.
“Thank you Mr. Riccon!”
