I was done, and washed my hands of Star Wars, after "The Last Jedi". I I have never felt so Insulted and angry leaving a movie before. So I turned my back and walked away.
Then a couple people in my D&D group piped up and said the "The Mandalorean was good. I was skeptical, and didn't want to give any money to "The Mouse". One of them linked me an European streaming site, so I watched the whole series over the past eight weeks. The show started with a Very 1977 SW feel, but it has run the gamut of 60's television, from "Have Gun. Will Travel." to "Combat! with Vic Morrow!" So, I'll hope they don't drop the ball (or the baby) next season, like they have with the movies.
So
Wielder, what do you think he is? I am thinking a Doberman? Lever dobie?

Oh em gee, you want images of Beaucerons. I am so happy to oblige. :) I'd suggest this (despite the cropped ears, still all too common sadly), or this or this. In short: imagine a Dobermann with the size and self-possession of an old-school working-line German Shepherd, and all the vitality and possibly even more of the charisma. Fabulous dogs: capable, competent, effective, brave.
I guess it's clear I'm a fan. :)

"The Last Jedi" was evidence enough that the producers for the Star Wars movies didn't have a plan or a clue about what kind of tone to set. "The Rise of Skywalker" just confirmed it. They really should have just adapted the Thrawn Trilogy as the Sequels and it would have been vastly better.
But yeah, in spite of my initial skepticism of "The Mandalorian" I fell in love with it pretty quickly. It's a Spaghetti Western in space and I adore Spaghetti Westerns. And throw in a little "Lone Wolf and Cub" amongst the influences. This captures the spirit of Star Wars far better than those bloated and confused movies. And I do love Moff Gideon. Calm, cool, ruthless. Legitimately scary. Why couldn't we have gotten someone like him in the Sequels rather than an angry Ginger teamed up with an unstable Emo?
Your take on him here is fantastic. You've got his face and expression down perfectly.

I finally watched The Last Jedi when it came on TV on Boxing Day, and I'm glad I didn't waste the price of a theatre ticket on it. I haven't seen the Mandalorian yet because I don't want to sign up for yet another pay service.
I did enjoy Ad Astra. Basically Apocalypse Now in space.

As someone who has worked on movies, I am always aware of the various crafts necessary to make a film, I can turn off my brain for some aspects depending on the genre, but that just makes other aspects more apparent. If you have not seen my profile, I will just inform you that I am not a fan or ally of progressive politics, and I felt the injection of politics, to make Star Wars relevant, removed the timelessness of the property. I also thought they did Luke Skywalker dirty, so their new character could shine. Han Solo went out worse. So I discount the contributions of Eiger, Kennedy, Johnson and Abrams. Having Favreau and Filoni who are fans of the old stuff, and it shows in the Quality of The Mandalorean.
I kind of walked away from Star Wars after Episode I.
And honestly, from movies in general. The most recent film I saw was when my parents took me to see Borat, but that's about it.
I think I've done the right thing. Sure, there are some good ones out there, but most of it now is just remakes and sequels and CGI'd Michael Bayformers...
And then there was Ghostbusters, where twitter ballooned it from a crappy remake to some sort of battle taking place in the culture wars, which ultimately ruined the franchise for everyone. I don't know how anyone could go to see the new one coming out after all that.
And as I look at all of the fighting, I can't help but think to myself, is this how religions are created and destroyed? What if Zeus and Horus and even Jesus himself weren't meant to be portrayed as gods, but simply as the "Superman" and "Iron Man" of their times. And the only reason they exist as religions is simply because crazed fanboys took them all out of proportion of what they were originally supposed to be? Like, the whole rift between Sunni and Shi'ite Muslims simply originated from an out of control fanboy war over a man who was only meant to be what Luke Skywalker is to us today?
Sorry, I'm rambling now...
