My creatures seem to come and go in phases! I was big on drawing these bongo dudes in 2006-07, then lapsed for a year or so, and here they are again.
There's almost no coherent backstory to these guys; initially they were just a lovechild of Stuff I Like, and they led their lives in an Amazon forest/Peruvian landscape cluttered with Mayan and Moche garb, save for the bloodletting, which makes no sense, as the bongo antelope originates in Africa. I would love to make their world a bit more original and eventually move away from the term 'bongo people', haha.
On the left is a surface anatomy study of a middle aged female, hairless to show the skin. I need to fiddle with the arm proportions, as they look a bit too human, for some reason. The graphite portrait in the middle is a young adult male sporting various ear piercings (I fancy they'd be big on gauging and stretching the lobe). Littered around the top and right are various portraits while I tried to get a decent head-shape down for different angles.

Oh, these are beautiful! You got such a wonderful range of expressions and angles. I am just slobbering over that rendered portrait at the bottom. The shock of light that hits the bridge of the nose and shadows the cheeks and fur on the opposite side is nothing short of pro.
Agh, so inspiring...!
And man, I get how you feel. I love making up races/creatures, but I tend to overdevelop them to the point it'd be a waste not to do anything...which is frustrating when you've already got stuff you're working on. What am I going to do with all these conceptually heavy ideas that roll around with nothing substantial to cling to? I can't ditch them, I just can't! DB
