The Opossum would not have been our first choice for reaching out at. But his families farm was being brought closer to the infestation daily. His father far too old to be doing anything more than simple farm work. Not quick enough to dash through rivers and still firing at the monsters. Our first choice would have been the oldest brother. But he was leading the family now. Forcing us to choose the second oldest instead. It was easy to observe and find the time when he would be separate from his family to have a Hunter approach him. They will soon be swept up in it regardless and having one prepared defender and breaker against the wave would assist both them and us.
The initial report the Veteran deliver back to me was at least promising. Despite having no idea about us or what was approaching the German boy jumped at the chance to defend his large family. Eagerness is good. As long as it is tempered before he rushes only to be trapped by a Hive. He seemed to trust the scarred Hunter immediatly. Perhaps it was the wear and tear in their eyes. Or their large and well cared for but used Uppercut. But he agreed to discuss it with his family to clear it by them. That was less encouraging. But the Veteran scouted with The Sight as the Opossum family took two hours to deliberate. Zari in fact had the Hunter move to hear their farms main dwelling to be seen by his Father. To confirm the story most likely. Whatever the reason it settled the matter.
By the end of the day Zari had been given one of the two Springfield conversions the family owned to keep their farm safe from varmints and larger wild animals.
It would not protect them should the infestation grow more. Or keep Zari alive long. With a tattered hat and an old and heavy bandolier the Father had won years ago in cards the lad hugged his large family and left with our Hunter. They only know he is going to protect them. I hope he lasts long enough to do so. Zari has been initiated now and I sign off for this record. He will be paired with another Initiate soon to help his survival chances.

The Bear was an interesting case for us. Rather than be approached by us he approached us. A very country man Tukaram was living with his wife in a small cabin built by himself in the deep woods. Apparently a very old several acres his family has owned for generations. He was aware of the Monsters, having to beat them off a few times and had the black and red spattered Machete to prove it. He has an affinity for Dusters as well and always has those on him even when speaking with Mr. Jones. Not always worn but in easy reach. As a WoodsBear he is more than capable of using them as well. And was found caving in the Skull of a Grunt by one of our Veterans on a Hunt. Tukaram had been searching for our Hunters. Apparently he had found tracks and evidence of them before and was looking for answers. Thankfully our Veteran was able to keep him from lumbering toward them with a hip held Caldwell as he explained.
There was no pause or consideration. He followed without any questions with only the stipulation that as long as we helped him keep the Monsters from his home and wife he would work with us. I suspect he had told his wife of his intentions before he left to seek us out as he has not returned to that location yet. And reads our reports of Monster outbreaks eagerly to see if they are near 'My Forest'.
He arrived at our doorstep as he was found. Lightly equipped for traveling with a Romero, Dusters, and basic medical supplies. It is humorous that he fits a fairly typical description of a Hunter. Just not one of the Monsters he will soon be pitted against. But I have faith in him far more than his partner. We have paired the Possum Zari with him. The large bear will make sure the jittery boy isn't wiped out in his first Hunt and so far has taken a liking to the German.
