This was actually a lot of fun to work with. I hate inking, but I decided to try it out in photoshop. Despite being horribly time consuming, it came out... alright. I also like the character design a lot more than I do on snake/shark murrsona. He looks like some really wacky cicada / beetle hybrid.
SO YEAH. BEETLES ARE PRETTY FREAKIN' COOL, and I hope to draw him some more in the future.
Tell me what you think / what you'd change etc, if you don't mind :U
PS: Cool recycled pose. I didn't even notice that. Fuuuck. I wish I knew what to do with arms :U

I didn't like the Prawn's design, nor do I like the whole moral of the story. I wish they had focused more on the resistance to the treatment of the prawns. Originally, District 9's website alluded to the fact that aliens would hitch rides on trains and boats and as a result, they were a global problem with each country treating them differently.
Overall I liked it though.

The roman salute was remarkably similar to the old american (and Nazi) salute, no? I don't want people getting the wrong idea, though, I do find the idea of ancient civilizations super fucking fascinating. Roman doesn't fit beetles though. I'd go with Egyptian, whatwith the respect they had for scarabs.
Why's he looking at the ground. Did he drop his lucky penny?
What I'd possibly change is do a little bit of shading to give the character some more depth, and study pictures of bugs before redoing it so that way you get an idea of what textures you need to emulate while working on it.
Also, I second the notion to go with the Egyptian theme.

The 'shine' on the eye is actually a pseudo-pupil. Having a cartoony representation of the eyes is the only way I can think of displaying emotion.
I probably should have better explained and executed this idea.
