The tropical climate of The Gilded Isles don't tend to get much snows in the winter seasons, but they do often get battered by harsh wind, rain and lightning storms. This Yule brought in a particularilly wild lightning storm which meant it was dangerous for Karrah to fish in the sea, and the management didn't fancy losing fishing slaves to the storm.

So those who were well behaved were given some time to themselves. Karrah, being a Lizal, loves all things water, so the heavy rain is no hinderance to her, and she rather enjoys the lightshow that is the lightning.
