Van parked, Dan and Alex slipped out and trudged to the front door. The last work day before the holiday break was finally at an end; two weeks of Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Year's festivities lay ahead.
They were taken by surprise when the door opened just as Dan put his hand to the knob. He barely had a second to register the presence of Krista, mistletoe in hand, before her lips were upon his, drawing him into a lingering kiss.
"What am I, chopped liver?" Alex joked from behind.
"Nah, you're tastier," Krista replied. She repeated the gesture with her lover, who eagerly returned it.
"That's one Christmas tradition I can get behind," she commented with a smirk. She passed them by, hanging her coat on one of the hooks in the alcove. "Hey, what happened to the wreath on the door?"
"Well...there was an incident," Krista sighed. "Someone's learned how to climb..."
From the living room came a high-pitched cry of "Daddy Daddy Daddy!! Look how high I'm in the Christmas tree!"
"That's really nice, sweetie, but get down from there!" Alex shouted, rushing into the room. "Vicky, help her out. Matt, get away from the menorah! You'll melt your whiskers again!"
Dan and Krista exchanged glances, then met for another kiss. They could have another moment or two to themselves before going in.
