Way to keep it old school

Hm, I see. As a fan of the 80s and the 2003 animes I think I'll not enjoy the changes they made to the characters.

I really like Tezuka's characters, their weirdness and appeal and I'm worried that with a family friendly western flick you won't get any of those.. how to put it.. slightly side-ways bits?

Haha, I see, and I agree with it! Tezuka's characters are, to this day, still quite unique and some are quite iconic too. It's a shame that the movie adaptation seems to be trying too hard to "adaptate" the characters to their own needs.

I think that this thing of "adaptating characters" to look more family-friendly or more "modern" is pretty bs, specially when you're targetting kids as your public. They're an easy to conquer public, but they know when you're bullshitting them by making things way too "friendly". At least I did, anyway. I always prefered edgier or more complex cartoons or movies when I was young.

True, and I find that the things that made me uncomfortable or scared as a kid I hold dear these days. There is probably some kind of psychological rule for that kind of thing. All I know is when I see like, Predator or Akira I get a little thrill before it even comes on, more than likely because I was terrified when I was little.

And the new movie was not good. :P

Well, I'm a moderate Astro Boy fan, and watching it didn't make me want to kill myself or anything...but you'll be disappointed. No two ways about it. ^_^;

The movie was terrible -- it takes a special kind of stupid to mess up as straightforward a premise as Astro Boy!
