Might I suggest tungsten wires instead, and/or titanium? They're both highly heat-resistant, and nowhere near as toxic as asbestos. (Though the handle will need to be insulated. I suspect wielder's gloves will be on post-Christmas sale now.)

actually, he's going the right way as it is a skull dragon, aka black dragon. Asbestos is decently acid resistant materials and heat isn't the main problem... though the acid may or may not catch fire... gold chain may also do it if your willing to make a happy dragon though.

(my pin name may be inferring to acid rain, in which is referring to black rain, as in, acid falling from the sky... ya 001 is a dragon lycan hybrid mutt and able to eat most things willy nilly, and while his higher digestive awareness would probably note asbestos... it would almost certainly give him serious digestive pains...)
