hehe this is way cool. i know lions have barbs :P and the evolutionary benefit to their manes goes beon protection, but to the fact that it increases their heat, so that for a lion to have alarge mane and still be able to survive the burning heat he must have other traits that increase his chances of survival(such as the strength to aquaire resources/water, over his competitors)
