Pencil colour is easier than single-colour shading. You just press hard.
This uses entirely light strokes. Even the dark colours. That, and pencil colour never looks too nice. Paint tends to have a nicer effect, but is unscannable, and prismacolours are ruddy expensive.
Ideally, if anything, it'd be prismacolours, or just doing more digital work.
