Actualy, Exar Kun was well known for using a Violet saber- so I'd always thought that red AND purple were Sith colors. Saris was a Dark Jedi who wielded a Light Blue saber- which complemented the fact that she was the cold, calculating type.
A lot of these rules that Lucas tacked onto the Starwars Universe are really lame. :p

Apparently, the only input George gives the game developers is 'make sure the bad guys have RED lightsabers.' (i guess it prevents Team Kills) So we can put that right up their with The Rule of Two, Jedi Marriages, and Midichlorians. :p

we can thank Samuel L. Jackson for that, he said if he was to be a Jedi, he wanted a purple saber (unless that was a rumor), before the new trilogy, it was only supposed to be red, blue and green, but now that rule is thrown out... along with the everything else in Star Wars now... grr....
Besides, why can't a purple Twi'lek have a matching saber? :P
