Just a shot showing how I've dealt with attaching the tail to your waist. It has two belt loops, and the back belt loop on your pants goes in between them. So the belt goes through three loops right in a row. Attaching it to the belt loop on your pants like that means that it stays in one place on your waist, rather than drifting around.

It works pretty well, though it took a bunch of experimenting to figure out the best way to do it. The first tail I made just had a rope that you tied around your waist like a belt, but it tended to droop a lot in the back, and I eventually fixed that issue by coming up with this way of fixing it to your pants.
