one of my favorite things to do with shedinja is to use confuse ray right out of the gate and then start using screech after that. More times than you'd think I've seen enemies just slap themselves to death
I also thought that giving it the focus sash would keep it alive through at least one hit that connected but it just waisted the item and the pokemon still died...
