The second story for
Sergeenxt I decided to write about the newest addition Krogin, this is his backstory and maybe I might write more about him in the future.
As always feedback/criticism is always welcome.
In the land of Golarian, there was a settlement of green-scaled lizardfolk that lived mostly calm lives. This tribe of lizardfolk resided in a swamp within the Riverkingdoms. This settlement of green-scaled lizardfolk was a small one, consisting of around eighty or so lizards all living within the safety perimeter that consisted of a ring of spiked stakes. The buildings within the wooden perimeter consisted of a cluster of hollow mounds built on islands raised above the swamp, each with a single entrance covered by a flap to prevent loss of heat. Simplistic in design but worked as shelter from the elements, a single mound would house lizardfolk from multiple families to share the living space for warmth and companionship. Well, most mounds would one exception was for a mound outside of the fenced-off perimeter that belonged to a lone lizardfolk. The others of the settlement avoided this mound due to many reasons. The first reason is that the lizardfolk that lived there collected the arms of foes he deemed strong. And Severed arms plus the warm and humid biome that is a swamp, equal to some faster decomposition of said arms, so this mound never smelled great. The second reason is that the one that lived there was also very awkward to talk too for various reasons. The lizardfolk in question was always saying their name a lot; the excessive drooling and the blank stare they gave when they begin to zone out was unsettling. One lizardfolk visited the lizard away from the settlement and said that the inside smelled of death and decay, bones of creatures littered the floor as well. The lizardfolk said after being in the home for a short amount of time, he felt nauseous and had to leave, and he never understood how a lizardfolk could live in such conditions. The mound belonged to a lone lizardfolk called Krogin.
Now Krogin wasn’t the brightest of creatures, also maybe another one of the reasons the other lizardfolk avoided
him. Krogin grew up in that mound with his family, consisting of his brother and sister. Krogin’s parents were absent because his father died in a horrible hunting accident while he was young. And his mother disappeared after she had given birth to his younger sister and brother. Krogin gained the mound that used to belong to his parents and then had to take care of his siblings, Krogin was only Seven years old at that time. He was five years older than his sister and six years older than his brother. Krogin’s sister had a weak body and couldn’t handle any physical tasks while Krogin’s brother was too young to do much. So Krogin had to take care of his family on his own as the other lizardfolk did not want to take them in for reasons he never did find out. Krogin spent a good portion of his time growing up taking care of his siblings when he went to find food he struggled to catch fish, so he opted to hunt swamp boars. During the boar hunting, Krogin couldn’t run fast enough to catch the creatures, so he did a very smart thing. Krogin would provoke the boars into charging him, and then he would run forward at the boar and headbutt it. Krogin had a thick skull and strong bones, so after a while, the boar would knock itself out, and krogin would drag it back home to eat. Krogin did this every few days for a while, and it took a toll on his mental abilities as it got harder for him to make sentences and think. But doing this was a pretty good work out for someone his age, and he ended up growing stronger and stronger each passing day. As Krogin grew older, he also grew in size getting above Seven feet tall and becoming a hulk of a lizard. His muscle mass also increased, and he ended up being the strongest lizardfolk in the tribe, even if the others wouldn’t admit it. Krogins sister who had a weak body never got better in that regard, she was able to stand and walk about, but with difficulty and needed to rest a lot. But she ended up becoming very smart, and she learned a lot of magic while at the house.
At the age of fifteen, a group of bandits or adventurers attacked the lizardfolk settlement, and many lizardfolk warriors fought to push back the invaders. Krogin stayed at his mound with his siblings to make sure they were ok, and he had them hide in case an invader entered. And one did, as the flap of their home was ripped off, and a hulking man entered wielding a massively large greatsword. The man surveyed the room to find anyone living within the lone home outside the safety of the lizardfolk settlement. As he wandered around the place, he spotted Krogin's brother, who was doing a poor job at hiding, causing the man to laugh before he went to attack the child. But he stopped mid-swing, he sensed a large amount of bloodlust within the room he turned around and saw Krogin staring at him, drooling a bit. The man was taken aback by Krogin's size, and how the lizard was meer inches from his face. The man in his panic took a large arcing swing at the reptile, only for his blade to lodge itself in the wall. Krogin took this chance to jump at the man and rip him apart with claws and teeth. As Krogin stood up and looked at the mangled corpse, he noticed he was still holding an arm from his victim, and the skin was soft to the touch, smooth and warm. This moment sparked something in Krogin as the arm slowly lost its warmth; he wanted more arms from creatures; they felt oddly nice to the touch. Krogin ripped the massive blade from the wall to him; it was light and weighed little for him. He told his siblings to hide better as he wanted to help the others, his sister told the younger brother where to hide and Krogin ran out towards the settlement.
The settlement was getting attacked hard, many humanoid creatures armed with blades and armor fought the green-scaled lizardfolk equipped with leather armor and wooden stone spears. Many lizardfolk were losing their lives but still putting up a decent fight even though it seemed hopeless they didn’t want to give up. That’s when both sides heard a loud guttural roar coming from the distance, while some lizardfolk and humans still fought a good number stopped to look for the source. The only had to look for a few seconds be their eyes locked onto Krogin running towards them, the large blade in hand. Some of the men laughed on how one of their more cocky members got bested by a single lizard, but some smarter ones we're concerned about that fact. Two men clad in heavy iron armor stood in front of Krogins path and readied their weapons, only for both to be cleaved in two with one swing. The men that were laughing before witnessing that scene stopped, the men that were concerned were now scared. Krogin looked at the two dead bodies at his feet bent down and ripped an arm off; it was also warm to the touch even inside the armor of the now-dead owner. Krogin wondered how these arms would taste and decided to take a bite; it was meaty and tasted like the swamp boars. Krogin was surprised the human arm tasted like boar, and the humans were surprised he just consumed an arm right after killing someone. The men who were scared were now terrified, and the men who weren’t scared now were. Krogin liked this weird happy feeling he got when holding these arms and wanted more of it, he readied his weapon and charged again. Krogin was like a whirlwind of death running around and cleaving into his foes like butter, and he made the other lizardfolk savagery look like a joke. The other men still around turned around and ran; they wanted to get away from this monster that swung the large blade like it was nothing. The men's fear solidified when Krogin beat a man to death with another man’s arm while one of their dead allies hung from his mouth by the arm. After a short time, all the men had fled the lizardfolk settlement, and Krogin stood in a sea of corpses.
After Krogin went back to his mound, his siblings came out from hiding to greet him, and he was happy they were still ok. As Krogin was about to go inside some lizardfolk spoke up and got his attention, they wanted to say something but were struggling. After a minute, one spoke up saying they would let Krogins siblings live in the safety of the settlement, as after this event being outside the fenced area could be dangerous. Krogin was happy to hear this as his siblings, and himself would be much safer and get better-cooked food inside. But the green-scaled lizardfolk said only Krogins green-scaled siblings would be allowed to live in the settlement. Krogin was a bit sad to hear this and his siblings protested, but Krogin said he would be fine and ushered for his siblings to go. With his siblings gone, the mound seemed less lively, Krogin was alone for the first time in a long time. He would come home with food only to be greeted with silence, his home was empty only the sounds of the swamp echoed in his home. Krogin didn’t have to worry about the care of his siblings so he spent most of his day training with the large blade he got, getting even stronger as time went on. A year later, Krogin decided to go out and travel around the swamp, since he could now do that, he thought it would be better to look at the positive of this situation. As Krogin travelled through the swamp, he stumbled over a stone protruding out from the ground, and upon closer inspection, it seemed to be the entrance to something. Krogin was easily able to rip the stone out from the ground; once removed, the stone revealed a staircase leading down into some long-forgotten tomb. Somehow torches were still burning within the musty old hallway of the tomb, and Krogin would have been worried about this if it wasn’t for the constant head trauma he self-inflicted as a child. As he wandered deeper into the tomb, Krogin found himself in a large room with many vases and trinkets all over, and in the center sat a stone coffin. Krogin walked around the room; neither the vases nor the trinkets interested him so he decided to check what was in the stone box. He ripped the top off the box and inside lay a shrivelled up old mummy; Krogin looked at the dried corpse for a minute before he ripped an arm off. The arm wasn’t warm like the others but he felt like it would make a cool trophy and as Krogin put the arm on his shoulder, his body froze. Krogin struggled to move, but nothing worked, then the mummy in the coffin sat up and climbed its way out of the coffin towards Krogin. The mummy walked around Krogin and put his other arm around his neck; it locked its arms together as if giving Krogin a light embrace, its head resting on his shoulders, and it spoke.
“Sooo, you like arms, do you?” It spoke in a dry, raspy voice a hand lifted up and gently caressed Krogin's head. “Well regardlessss, you will love them, you will want more of them, and you will collect them, just like what you attempted to do with mine.” The mummy locked its arms again before its body began to turn to dust and fade away; only its arms remained lock around Krogin's neck like a necklace. “I will let you have these as a reminder of what you love… Think of it as a gift from me to you.” The voice echoed within Krogin's head, and after a few minutes, he was able to move again. Krogin felt weird; it was like he had this large craving for something; it began to eat at him, whatever it was he needed to sate it. Krogin left the tomb with a large craving, one that could only be quelled with the acquisition of new arms.
Krogin later left his home to travel around the world, and some years after his departure, his siblings would also set out in hopes of reuniting with their brother.
