The sounds of some sort of chittering monster grew around us. Smiling, I stepped forward and lowered myself to one knee, hoisting my shield in front of me. The blast of noxious magic dissipated against the stormcloud emblem, and I thrust my sword forward, impaling the beast and sending a burst of thick black ichor running down the blade.
"You know," I said to Richard, "bows are for cowards too afraid to get into the melee."
I heard a twang from behind me, and an arrow flew over my head, pinning another of the beasts to the ground.
"And shields are for idiots who don't know how to stay out of the way," he responded.

Ah... the bickering among fighters with different preferences. Most of the times it is just a friendly banter though.
I can't see the type of sword here, but would suggest a stabbing sword like a gladius as slashing blades might interfere with the wings. Either way, it sure looks cool.

Also, you learn to fight with the wings, not against them. Eventually, it is subconscious, like breathing and you even start to use them to your advantage. Take fighting with 9 tails, takes a lot of training and practice to get used to fighting with them but man can they be a distraction for your opponent.
