A story that is often talked about when discussing Galar's history has often been "The Darkest Day". The story speaks of two kings who fought with a sword and shield to protect Galar in ancient times from a threat that almost brought the destruction of Galar. At least, that's how many pokemon have heard the story while growing up. The true story begins with two legendaries, one with a sharp sword and another whose body was as tough as a shield. The two protected the Galar region as guardians and worked with the two kings to fight off the source of the Darkest Day. With their energy spent and their bodies failing them, they went to sleep as statues for many years. Their bodies slumbered for eons while their existence had almost disappeared from the wold, most things representing them having been forgotten or covered up. The most anyone knows about them is the mysterious illusions that some pokemon see while trying to enter the forest before the fog envelops them and they awake outside. What many pokemon don't know is that this is the legendaries protecting the pokemon that enter from what they may encounter in the forest.

One of the Legendaries, Meredith, is hoping to one day awake from her slumber and see what the world is like now. Being shackled to the forest that her body rests in has been rather boring as time went on. It also doesn't help her presence is quite jarring for the pokemon who try to wander into the fog. All she can hope for is the pokemon who will one day take up the task of freeing them from this long slumber. Most of it is attributed to wanting to take a sword and practice her skills once more, but another worry is the energy that has been traveling through Galar. They feel something is happening, that the Darkest Day may return once more. In due time, all they can really do is wait and see. Hopefully, when this day approaches, the two will be ready to fight at their best.
