Here’s another excellent example of a Volkswagen Karmann Ghia. This one is a 1961 model, making it almost as old as the photographer.

It is just a shadow. I didn't notice until you mentioned it, but it looks like a two-toned black/silver paint job.

That was my initial thought, until I saw that the shadow crossed over onto the grill. A brilliant shot that deserves every accolade it gets! :)

I do like the color on this one. The 'peekaboo' photography is neat, too. I tend to try to get the whole danged thing and wind up having to do some sort of kooky Dutch angle.

I've been criticized for not shooting the whole car. For a while, I tried to get one as reference. At a car show, there's so much background clutter, those lose all artistic appeal to me. Heck, sometimes clutter even creeps into these closeups I shoot. But I figure if anyone want to see what a '61 Karmann Ghia looks like from a distance, it's easy enough to Google up an image.

Hmmm. I never heard that nickname. I know that on the original British version of Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson liked poking fun at Richard Hammond's Porsche by calling it a Beetle.

US enthusiasts love customizing their VWs. Originals were in the minority at that show.
