I have the same problem writing for males, they all usual end up sound the same speech wise.

hum I guess you could use diferant vocabulary, and more rough guy could say slighly more blunt or assholish things. and a quite nice guy could give more compliments or be more of a pushover

Actually, i've had that problem with writing for females sometimes but one thing is that i take the speech patterns and the mannerisms from my friends and use those as the reference for the character, it helps alot i've found.

That's what I usually do with females, but there are very few males in my life (just a handful). A few times I've had to take female friends who were boyish and apply their personalities.

Another thing that's worked with my characters is modifying their parents' personalities. Like my character Jo has a personality like her mother, straight to the point and no much for small talk. Although her mother makes sarcastic remarks and biting comments; Jo tends to let things roll off and ignores rude remarks towards her but will bust heads in defense of others.

That's a great way as well. Damn i wish we had a thumbs up on here like on dA, lol. I currently redoing some small parts in the series because i changed his name....Poor guy needed a great name and i had nothing at the moment of creation.

I know that is to have to redo things. I've only been writing stories for 2 years so it seems like ever 3 or so months I have to update because my writing improves so much.

*smirks*I've been writing since i was 11.....This is just a new series and its allowed me to work on my short story format (though its more like chapters now). I currently have about 30 stories started (just because i can't stop myself sometimes) and about five series or trilogies.

Wow, I only have 1 completed story (it's only 40 parts (I call the parts chapters just to save time) of about 3-5 pages each), 2 partly finished, 7 on hold or never started, and one sequel.

Lets just say that i'm a prolific writer...Call me the next Stephen King...only i write romance!
