String Quartet No. 2 in A Minor - II. Adagio e molto cantabi
The second movement to my second String Quartet is designed as a Rondo as well. This time the main subject is peaceful, and the inspiration is more Impressionistic, as of the waves at sea. Everything is calm with slowly rising and falling tension. In many ways, this was my attempt to do an homage to Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings. I also have a small quotation from Beethoven's 14th String Quartet, and if you can find it, wow!
I consider this by far my most beautiful and evocative work written back in the 90s. It is the heart of this Quartet and I think stands on its own.

*grins* You have a very good ear then! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I wrote a version of this for Saxophone Quartet one time that was played in practice and it sounded pretty good there, even if one the fellow with the Bari Sax said he thought it would put people to sleep!
