Originally, it was going to be a character-driven RPG, but we're getting a bit more ambitious and now thinking more of a hybrid RPG/beatemup. Zelda 2 and Skullgirls are major mechanical inspirations, but we're also planning for a robust party system. It's going to be a long time in the making and we're currently starting over as we try to find the best engine for the job.
As for sharing it, we do intend to publish it, yes. We were originally intending it to be free, but we may have to sell it for cheap out of necessity. It's certainly more a passion project than a business venture. Alpha and beta builds will definitely be free, and on release we intend to at least provide one character's complete storyline as a demo.
There's a lot up in the air, like we intend to have fully animated cutscenes and voice acting for essential characters, and maybe some kind of inbuilt streaming support. Those are all frills, though, and might not be done if they prove to be impractical with what we have to work with. We'll probably start looking for help once we've got an engine nailed down and some characters coded in, but for now, we're planning around having a two-person dev team, being myself and the artist.
Sorry if that ramble was a bit more than you asked for

I does sound interesting and I am glad you shared this wih me.
I do have some concerns though:
•Is this your first game?
•Since this is a 2 person passion project, i think you should keep it simple.
•If you two can do everything planned, that's great and it will only be a matter of time when you are finished. But if you need to hire someoone to work for you, you might spend a lot of money. Also complication always occur, so some complex features will prove very troublesome (also financially troublesome if the hired person is working on them).
I would suggest a focus on a single storyline rather than on multiple ones because you are a small team. Well, if you make the story like Tekken story mode (number of kinda random fights and with the same last boss and after that a single cutscene for each character), it could be easier, but I have a feeling you would like to do something more complex. I'm sorry if I sound a bit discouraging, but I would be glad if you manage to finish your project.
How do you imagine a screenshot of a game would look like? I imagine it like a top down view (like zelda) with multiple characters with variety of moves fighting each other.
