Here's my redesign for the Dark Knight! I really wanted to lean into the urban myth aspect of Batman present in most "Year One" era stories. The design is very "Phantom of the Opera", combining Victorian and Gothic elements for a ghostly man-out-of-time look, effectively personifying Gotham itself. As you may notice, his cowl is designed to become a demonic face when in shadow, lending to the rumors of an inhuman bat creature that stalks the city. His chest design is capable of evoking the same face idea, potentially making him appear as multiple monsters. After all, he couldn't possibly be just one man. I felt it was important to maintain a few core aspects of Batman, MOST importantly his silhouette, but also his utility belt and color scheme (more or less). You'll notice he's practically greyscale, devoid of any blues or yellows, and that is very intentional. This design provides for an infinite variety of creative noir rendering options on the page, which is key to a good main-universe Batman design. It's also a costume that will work in all art styles, from the very simple to the highly complex.
So let me know what you think! More designs are on the way! Who do you want next?

There was a Victorian Batman comic. It was called "Gotham by Gaslight" and was in fact the very first Elseworlds comic (well, technically the "Elseworlds" logo wouldn't appear until the subsequent "Batman: Holy Terror", but same shit). It has excellent art by Mike Mignola of Hellboy fame. The costume in that comic is very different from mine though. There's also an animated film adaptation which is very different from the comic but actually quite good in its own right.
