My old Steamfox Hat. My, how many memories it has given me through the years. Every oil mark, sweat stain and scuff could tell a story of past adventures and events, both good and some... Not so good. It was the cap I wore recently to watch the UP X4014 "Big Boy" steam South through the Cajon Pass and on to Los Angeles. There's still a few threads knocked loose on the crown where I beaned myself on the hatch of the SS Lane Victory looking into the shaft tunnel. But now times have changed, and so have I.
Of course I'll keep the old baseball cap around for memory's sake.

I'm trying out a different hat now. I've posted an image of the new Chapeau in my Scraps folder.
Anyways, what a remarkable story. The Cajon pass is scary enough for me even in a car. (With Las Vegas, "Daddy come home" traffic too.) I tip my new cap to you, and the ideas your comment invokes.

Yep I have seen that too. You call the cops and they do next to nothing.
One place that will remain nameless a bunch of the local tweakers went missing...
It seemed they went camping togather and were overcome by the wildlife in the area.
The cops said the couldn't tell what killed them but they may have got a bad batch of drugs.

Really? I've read someplace that everyone has at least five, unrelated "Dopplegangers" that closely resemble each other living in close vicinity to each other. My Friend and History Buff even found images of a French Gourmand sailing aboard the Titanic in 1912, who looked very close to myself in body build, hairstyle and glasses. (Talk about spooky.)
I hope your father was a good and wise man.

Heh. I learned while living on the borders of the Mojave Desert to never venture outdoors without some kind of hat. I settled for baseball caps because they were inexpensive and easily available. Some of the ones I've owned even looked better beat up a bit. Still, I once had a light gray Stetson "Silverbelly" that belonged to my dad. I lost it when I moved out of the old folk's home in Mira Loma. -Not because I didn't need it, but because I had no place to put it, and I also feared soiling or ruining it because it still contained my memories of him.
A Stetson needs -- and deserves -- proper care. I'd never be able to wear one of my Dad's hats -- they wouldn't fit my hy000ge head. My mother's maternal grandfather was quite large -- over six feet -- but I don't know if he wore hats. He went out of Mom's life when her mother died when she was five. I get my height from him, though.
