I love the render on the hair, and i think you've also done the face well. Also the sheets?? Gorgeous.

Your rendering has always been real good, I think to keep advancing in your skills you should try to widen the range of values in your work, try to push for darker darks and lighter lights and pay attention to occlusion shadow. I know that doing master studies of value and composition helped me improve my pieces significantly.

I kind of trying to get away from deep shadows or bright white, since I just love it when it’s saturated and really misses the contrast, but I really want to jump into values and sharp shadows, I think I need this in my art a lot and it’s kind of feels limiting already that I don’t have those skills. Also just drawing with round soft brushes lately felt more like a curse than a blessing. I think those three things might help me render less and focus on focal point and composition much more. So I’m really happy I could make some studies and learn some stuff while having this week off the work. Really helped me, hope I will have more opportunities to do that 🍒

I think your paintings are simply beautiful in every aspect (color, drawing, tone).

I was taking another look at your gallery and your value range, while usually compressed within a particular piece, is actually quite broad! There are some paintings that live in a lighter, more pastel world and others that occupy darker, more atmospheric place. A limited value range actually demonstrates a well-honed ability to organize complex visual information. I also admire the conviction in your shapes! Never wish-washy, always very clean, clear, and decisive.

For this painting, I think maybe that beautiful red moment in the pillow could reflect more of its color into the hand and hair. I love the saturation, it just feels a little isolated. I don’t know how you made those beautifully rendered sheets feel so soft yet so solid... magic??

Now that I think of it - it totally should reflect more. I was very tired yesterday when I was finishing it and I only left very vague reflex that I can barely see now, so yeah, it totally makes sense, especially because even when finishing I didn’t feel okay with the way the hand and arm connect to the background, I think that’s the reason. I will keep that in mind next time 💕
