a little walk cycle i cooked up in a few hours. i'm probably going to fix it up tomorrow - the head/neck area bother me to no end. i think the head is too small, for one. i'm also probably going to extend the stride just a slight bit, as well. this is a little too "stiff" of a walk for me to be satisfied.
next i'm going to work on a trot, then a light run, then a full run. eventually i'm going to try and string them all together .
critiques much appreciated! i'm pretty new to this animating thing, but i want to get better at it, so tear me a new one if you have to ^__-
EDIT: refresh to see changes. thanks to
thewonderhorse i was able to better spot my errors, so here's TAKE TWO(!!1!) of the walk cycle! i think my next improvement is going to be on the shoulder movement. i think once i done with that i'll be satisfied.
again, the more critiques the better i can make this! please, even if you aren't exactly sure what's wrong, tell me what you see and i might be able to understand how to fix it.
also. . . if anyone has stock videos/pics of animals walking, especially big cats, horses, canines, hyenas, and maybe giraffes and llamas/camels, i'd really appreciate it.
EDIT (again): fixed the shoulder movement. i think i'm done with this!

Very nice! The animation is pretty fluid! I can tell its a horsie gait too!
The only thing that caught my eye, is more often than not when a horse walks, their back hoof steps in the hoof print left by the front hoof. Whenever a horse under-reaches (i.e. doesn't pull the back leg to match where the front was) it usually shows that they're stiff in their back end. So this fella here seems like he's ouchie in his back toes to me ^^
BUT! This is all coming from a horse-nut. In RL i help clients evaluate horses for sale and help hook 'em up with good horses, and this is one of the things i tell them to look for ^^
The animation itself is very very smooth and fluid, there's no missing frames as i see in a lot of animations that people'll make. The musculature is also pretty consistent. All in all you did a fabulous job!
When it comes time for the trot though, I'd definately recommend trying to get that back end to step up and meet the front end, or atleast come within a hoofs length of the front leg ^^
Great job!!

thank you thank you thank you!
i knew i was seeing something wrong! both from my experience with horses and just that artist's "sense", but i hadn't been quite able to place it. i was thinking i hadn't made the front paws stretch out far enough, but now that you mention it i see what you mean. i'll pay attention to that much more now.
this is exactly the kind of advice i needed *hugs*
now that i know exactly what i need to do, i'm gonna fix this ^_^

Very glad to have helped! ^^ We spent many many weeks watching one of our horses so closely when he walked and found out he was gimpy in a hind leg because only one wasn't meeting the front hoof. The other was right where it should be. My other mare actually walks just like the critter you animated here, she's got arthritis in her hocks (back knees) and flexing them pisses her off XD
Can't wait to see your trotting video! ^^

thank you very much.
thewonderhorse deserves some credit, too. he helped me spot exactly what was wrong with it.
