Looks like you live in a lovely suburban/rural area. Or, if I remember what I've read about DFW, a sprawl neighborhood - sorry for the characterization, you can tell me if I got it wrong.

I live in a dense urban neighborhood. It's pretty when the snow is out, but what's near the sidewalks or streets very quickly turns into greasy slush or over-salted hardpan. Any grass near the pavements actually wilts and dies, covered in a white frost that might look like ice, but on closer inspection turns out to be salt... it's a real pity.
