Vassa is not male or female, and suggesting to it that it is either is extremely insulting to it; it considers gender a sign of weakness in mortals. It is undying, and resistant to death via injury and age (it can be incapacitated or dispelled, however), though it is very physically frail and feels pain on a level far exceeding what we experience. A paper cut to Vassa is the equivalent of a gunshot wound to a person. Taking into consideration that it has been shot, hit by cars, and even thrown into a wood chipper once... well, you can imagine that it has grown to fear pain so greatly that it goes to great lengths to fight without getting close to its opponent.
It does this through use of a very long scythe and its own agility. The long handle of its weapon keeps it from actually touching the opponent, and if you're faster than the opposition, they can't catch you to touch you. It's not a fool-proof method, of course--there are things called "bullets" with both longer range and higher speed--but since it disdains firearms (mostly because it is terrified of them), it's the most effective method it has come up with.
Personality wise, Vassa can be frustrating to deal with due to the fact that it isn't exactly in sync with the way people typically think. Exposed to mankind during an age of war, it has learned to try to solve problems with brute force and intimidation, leading to a lot of collateral damage or needless injuries. In general it is cold and robotic (with a hint of arrogance), unaccustomed to the behaviors of mortals, and its attempts to mirror the behavior (and even appearance) of "normal" people can often lead to breakdowns in communication and Vassa basically just making an ass of itself without realizing it. It isn't without redeeming qualities, though. It has learned some degree of empathy, is capable of genuine concern towards its conjurer, and it shows childlike excitement when people are friendly towards it.
Still, most should be very happy with the fact it cannot act on its own free will during the duration of a pact. Not that it would know what to do with its own will, anyway.
This is only one "face" of Vassa, one it takes to appear less terrifying to its conjurer and the few people in encounters. The purple hair has a bit of a story behind it (its hair is actually gray, formerly with a greenish tint from mold), but its a bit embarrassed by the whole thing. As such, its current master has struck the incident from the record.

The hair? XD
Well, Vassa learns how to interact with people by watching people, but because of the state of its being, the most "people" it typically sees is its master. In this case, Rasasha, who kind of has this thing about dying her hair often. Because Vassa learns from example, it thought, "I will try it because this is a mortal custom. Apparently."
It wasn't supposed to be purple. It just... turned purple. And because Vassa's hair doesn't grow (it's as long as it's ever gonna get), it doesn't grow out. It just has to fade away on its own.
And Vassa's a bit touchy about the incident, especially since it now realizes how dumb of a move it was.

Black. But apparently black dye does not go well with mold-covered, coarse gray hair. :C
BETTER THAN PINK, I GUESS.
And no, it'd regenerate. Just, very rapidly. Whatever gets cut off of Vassa either regrows or reattaches, but there's set limits to size when it comes to it. Its hair will never get any longer. It will never build any more muscle than what it has. It will never get taller. It will never gain any more weight. Its nails will never get any longer than they are. Et cetera.
