Goats are often characterized as stubborn, ornery misanthropes that are unimpressed with any ambition beyond what is necessary, including social achievements. Why seek a thousand friends when two will do? And this is particularly true when those friends are a sturdy pair of hands. Goats are independent, observant and thoughtful, often self-sufficient or self-employed in occupations that do not require excessive socializing (such as farmers, prospectors, mountain guides or trackers).
In more urban settings, the goat has no choice but to be around others, but tends to take on roles that afford some measure of solitude; the janitor, the gravedigger, the reddleman, the court executioner or shadowy assassin. However goats may also rise to positions of power or prestige simply because those positions allow for greater independence. Social standing itself is of little concern, and there is slim personal difference between high and low class goats. Living alone in a shack on a craggy cliff and chipping flint for a piece of copper per basketful, or living alone in a fine mansion as the regional tax authority whom the locals despise, or living alone as a widely celebrated explorer of harsh and dangerous lands is still living alone.
They also tend to excel in creative fields requiring great personal focus, as artists, virtuoso soloists or composers, and authors of works of profound philosophical merit. It is a mistake to see the taciturn goat as dim-witted, or lacking in spirit; they are instead intensely passionate people able to apply this inner energy to great effect when allowed to do so undisturbed. This is most obvious when watching kids at play, and indeed as hardy and stoic as most goats are, their children are the very nature of sprightly capriciousness.
The turning inward that happens comes from a sense of irretrievable tragedy. Any goat in moment of private revelation will tell you about The Event that ended their childhood. It is a common caprine theme: a lost great love, a death in the family, a crushed dream, etc.
This is because it is not that goats are born jaded isolationists, but the very opposite: they are incredibly lively, fragile creatures, no more so than as children. And when the world is first revealed as a possibly unfair, dangerous and hurtful place, it is generally a harder lesson for the deep-feeling goat to learn than for other species. Their withdrawn nature is a defense from feeling too much and from being too sensitive.

This is no different.
Also, beautiful composition. I would buy a poster print of this, if I wasn't broke (and if prints were available). :<
cheers
I haven't heard that title since high school. I used to go to a Ironclaw game after school at the local college. Some good nerdy times were had.
Thats so cool that your contributing to it though. Might think about trying to start another game some time soon.
Also, these are all really pretty, dude <3 You were always very swift with making complex compositions navigable and sane.
I'm excited to see more!
and thanks :)
It's interesting that you list 'farmer' as an occupation that doesn't require much socialising. This good-looking goat certainly seems self-sufficient :3
I dont know if this has anything to do with astrology...but i am a rabbit and i to hold a withdrawn nature fronting my real emotions but also as a defense...rabbits need a lot of attention.
anyway i absolutely love the clothing style as well...very very nice work
Again, I love the composition and contrast -- it's obvious that this is "GOAT" and not "Rhino" or "Pig" or "Potato".
And I'm loving your Species Profiles. Fearless Leader needs to use'em in the final book.
Wow, pretty interesting
*Gets to last two paragraphs*
That's profound
I love the colors you used to push everything in the background. Looks great!
Sorry to chatter on like that, but this is WELL-DONE, verily my fine sir, in sooth! (Sorry, been reading alot of Shakespeare recently)
And I can be a real butthead when I want to be.
This is a silly question, but what medium are you using? I want to say watercolors or inks, I'm not sure. I'm just impressed with the consistent coverage and yet the feel of a light application (specially the background and background figures); it almost seems like a wash.
I pencil the image, then ink the linework, then scan it in to complete it as a digital image in Photoshop :)
this is
this is
DRAW MORE RHINOS AND LITTLEST PIGS
Strange how that works out. O_O
This is therapeutic to look at. I kid you not!
COMPLEMENTARY YET MATCHING COLORS FOR FOCUS
1/3 LINE CENTER OF FOCUS
Man, dude. Makin' actual, honest-to-God art on Furaffinity.
Takes some chutzpah.
That's also true of your writing! I was sad to hear that your text isn't making it into the book. I think I'll message the Ironclaw publisher and tell them that if they put out a supplement written by you, I'd buy it sight unseen.
