Lantern Redux

I revamped an oldie from 2005: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3324412/
I like how this turned out, mainly because it's the first time The Strand has been coloured and I actually like the colour scheme it's got going on. In case you don't know, since The Strand is an abstract god instead of an anthropomorphized god, it is the bulbous orange and lined-green, twisty thingy wrapping around the lantern. It is The Great Lesser God of Lignamira.
It's pretty much the overseer of Lignamira, but there are other, more powerful gods. The Strand, seemingly of its own agenda, intervenes with certain events that transpire among the mortal organisms of the planet. Usually, it seems to correct the inbalance of justice, but has also been known to viciously tear apart random creatures until all that remains is a splattered, bloody crater of organs, tissue, and blood in the ground.

Anyway, in the older pic, I had a broken lightbulb and the fireflies, Gloams as they're referred to on Lignamira, were swarming around the broken lantern to provide the light that IT couldn't. I didn't like the idea of Lignamira having a similar technology to that of lightbulbs, so I went with something that fit the theme of a classic and gritty futuristic technology. The light source is somesuch reaction among the nuclei of sentient fungi and the correspondance between it and the resulting alkalides. They coalesce and react to create a powerful, blue-tinted light source. lmao jk, I have no idea how it works.
These lanterns are not uncommon to see in the forests of Lignamira, but are considerably more numerous in the Hanging Forests that grow beneath the Pockets (raised, stilted cities that exist above the tree line and extend into the atmosphere).
Lignamira and all concepts therein belong to me.
