I'd laugh, but one winter (2000-2001) a number of computers did keep my pets (birds) from freezing as the heat was out. (And I had a waterbed so I was as warm as I wanted to be. )
One problem though - unless he's running very old junk (don't think so!) he needs to be gaming or forcing it to work hard to use/burn some power. Newer systems with switching power supplies run a lot cooler than the old coal burning ones. (My main box draws less than 50 watts doing little or nothing and just under 300 when the CPU and twin GPUs are tearing through a render.)
((Yes, I don't go to movies because I can't help but point out why things don't work that way. Still cute art, but most if any heat is coming out the back of the beast! ))

Not gonna lie, even though it may sound stupid. Now that cold weather's coming, I'm keeping my games machine and its TV on all the time, even though not using it. It's a handy way to burn around 300W or so of electricity into energy. And with a couple small fans mounted above the TV, the air gets spread into the room, too. :D
