Here's #2 of 4 of the legendary creature illluminations I'm working on, obviously, gryphon ;) Just two more to go: Dragon and Phoenix :)

6x4" bristol board, Higgins Black Magic Ink, Instacoll (gold leaf adhesive), genuine 23.75k gold leaf, gouache.

Very Medieval. It looks like a manuscript illumination. Really quite lovely work, particularly given what I know about keeping gouache inside of lines.

I really love how this one turned out! The colours are gorgeous, lots of neat little details and I can only imagine it must be more stunning in person with all the shiny gold.
Did you use all paint for the colouration?
