Messing around with blender, really blown away by how easy it is to get some really nice results, and pretty quick rendering time as well!
Testing some things out for the future for my 3d work, things are looking good! Got some more views on my twitter (@hyst-draws), but enjoy this -exclusive- close up here~

Thank you! I'm having very similar issues, I've been mostly using 3dsmax then maya and I still can't even figure out how to select various things in Blender ^^; So, still going to be using maya for most of the process, but using Blender for rendering and stuff I suppose? Going to keep messing around with it for sure though!
Glad you like it! Got nothing to lose since it is free! You'd think it wouldn't be as powerful as paid software, but I'm just scratching the surface and it's already looking pretty great to me! Can't wait to see them, if you have any questions on how I did mine feel free to ask
Thanks a bunch! There is displacement here yeah, since for the render I subdivided and used a height map to get that real geo scale action. Not sure if sketchfab supports displacement, but the sketchfab models are the ones designed for use in Second Life so they are lowish poly. I was just messing around testing things in Blender so I just cranked things up and jury-rigged some existing stuff and suprisingly it worked out well enough!
