I was driving back to the Camp Roberts barracks in the evening of my day off from the hunter check-station when the truck's headlights suddenly caught movement and eye-shine.
There were raccoons!
In the dumpster!
And my arrival scared them away and into their super secret hiding place: under another set of barracks.
Naturally this made me want to draw raccoons and I thought, "Do I have or know of any raccoon characters? Of course I do! Geo!!"
And so I drew Geo, enjoying a cuppa something warm and delicious, leaning back against... well what would he be leaning back against?
And that's when Ronts showed up.
With peanut butter, of course. (Notice he's decided to forgo the use of the spoon in favor of his tongue. Some tools just work better than others...)
I got the majority of the picture drawn while at Camp Roberts and then it sat in my sketchbook for a while until recently, when I finished the sketchbook, completed an inventory of it, and made note of the pictures I wanted to finish. I thought at first I would color it but couldn't decide and realized I really rather liked it in pencil so I spent the past few days shading and stippling and so forth.
I'm ridiculously pleased with the happy raccoon face but I wish I'd had a reference on hand at the time for the feet. They ended up looking like all the other paws I draw despite my initial attempts to make them look like raccoon feet.
It was only after I looked up a reference for Ronts to make sure I was getting the white patches in the right areas when I realized the rewair should probably actually be smaller than Geo. Whups!
Hope you like it, Geo!
