This is actually one of two rice balls I made on the way to Japan. I added the appliques beforehand, but actually sewed the plushies together on the plane! I actually made two of these and each was given to the hosts of our AirBNBs in Tokyo and Osaka. I was just stupid and forgot to take pics of both of them. :-? They did look the same, though. Considering they were completely hand-sewn, they came out pretty great!
