Andross uses the power of his blood to forge dead flesh into undead demons called the Necross. Necross turn their dead victims into nascent Necross zombies. These zombies will slowly migrate to the nearest flesh forger to be crafted into proper Necross. Although initially sluggish, they will attempt to spread the infect any living they encounter along the way. If a zombie can not reach a flesh forger in time it will eventually mutate into a Necross on it's own.
Besides forging dead flesh, Necross also reproduce through spores. Necross are constantly shedding spores as they move. These spores burrow underground, feed off the nutrients in the soil, and grow into pods that will hatch new Necross. Underground pods can be located by the purple mushrooms, called death caps, that sprout on the surface. When a Necross is killed it releases a cloud of these spores into the air. Inhaling these spores can cause paranoid hallucinations. These spores are vulnerable sunlight which might explain by Necross are more active at night.
When Necross reach sufficient numbers they will build a hive and start a colony. At which point, they will attempt to capture victims alive to be harvested. Their victims have their blood drained to feed the revenants, their souls extracted to create more spawn and their remains will be used to forge new Necross. Hives provide shelter from sunlight to help spore pods grow. Hives also have queens which are giant bloated mounts of flesh that grow large turmors on their bodies that can be pulled off and forged into Necross as well. Revenants tend to have control over hives until a spawn can be created.
Necross are capable of self improving through mutation or by stealing desirable genetics from their victims. When a postive trait is discovered, the genes containing it are stored in special cells that become cancerous. That cancer is then spread to the other Necross and those traits that are stored in the cells are passed on to it. Since Necross are undead, cancer tends to repair damage rather then cause it.
A ghoul is a intelligent Nercoss that was forged with an intact brain. They retain their personality and partial memory from their previous life. They possess free thought to lead the Necross but lack freewill so they can never rebel against Andross. They will always follow orders but they are free to decide for themselves how best to execute those orders. They often considered themselves transcended or reincarnated into Necross. When a ghoul is first unborn they resemble a withered husk. They must devour the flesh of the living to reconstruct their bodies and they have to continually drink blood to prevent the degeneration of their bodies. More powerful and fully formed ghouls are called revenants. Revenants have command over lesser Necross and are often found bickering with one another over how best to lead them. Ghouls that have lost their intelligent are called hollows.
