I designed this craft, the TIE Riptide to be a precursor to the AQ-5 Waveskimmer, which appeared during the Battle of Mon Calamari in the Dark Empire comic books.

Neat; always liked the sea-skimmers and well: just like seeing aquatic/traditional naval vessels/equipment of the Star Wars universe... considering well: any earth-like planet is going to have a lot of water, so it'd have to be a consideration.
