She crouched, picking up the soaked mask from the puddle of water. "Poor thing," she whispered, wiping the rain-drop tears from its surface.

"Just leave it," the man said, eyes dark coals, burning cold. Her eyes fell, her heart clenching in her chest.

"They're gone. Holding on to a memory is worthless. Just leave it."
