Frett, many things about your latest project concern me. You'v become obsessed. You've shut yourself away for days on end, and completely neglected your social obligations. I drop by merely out of friendly concern and I find you working on a mechanical simulacrum of what appears to be a shameless dance-hall strumpet. I trust that when this "Galatea" of yours is complete, you will dress her like a proper lady. If not for the sake of your own reputation then for the dignity of your family name!

Dear Geri,
i take kindly to your concerns, but when one has a project, one must see it to the end. I know, i know, this is just a fancy of mine, but we live in an era where owning an house or property and with the return income from my money in the banks i can actually live without worrying about material stuff. I can dedicate my heart and soul to this project of mine. I am slowly, almost literally, seeing her completing before my eyes, i can almost taste the day where i will see her live, dance, even fly! (in a fashion) She already is alive in my head, i need to get these thoughts out and into reality. The parts i had bought in the past few years, And the projects were done for months before i quit my daily grind of a job and became free. She must be freed from the confines of my head. Also, i named her Philomela. If she works i could sell the projects for a great fortune, so she will pay for herself. Why would anybody not have a *person* like her in their house? A voice that is like music. The ability to think! To fly! Sh could be a companion, a marvelous servant. Or. Worse for worst. Just a centerpiece. Though i hope she will be a great lady with all the honors. I am not just assembling a random piece of machinery here. I am creating... the first of the future survivors of mankind. You've seen the war. They said it would end all wars. And, yes, it destroyed and reforged entire kingdoms. But i fear it was not the end of the wars. We must leave something that will survive us. She is "just" the first. I can do better and i will. After her. But first i must finish her. I must show that... it. could. work!

I've always meant to ask. Is she merely a pre-programmed automaton, or is she capable of thought?

I mean she obviously has to be programmed, but if her programming is just the base "instincts-equivalent" over which she builds or if she can actually think, is left unanswered by this comic. While everything revolves around her and she is the centerpiece... it's mostly the story of her creator. She gets activated exactly once in the entire comic. Everything else is the creator dreaming about her.

This will have an happy ending of sorts. Buuut It's the nightingale story... so she will have to be sold to the rich man, that was a given.
