Alright then, I think I should probably give a sign of life.
This is what I have been doing for the last few months: I spend my summertime learning how to use Blender, a free, but powerful 3D software. I always wanted to do something with 3D animations since I was younger, but could not justify doing ANOTHER art project on the side. So... I combined the two:
After many hours of YT tutorials and a paid course, I was able to use blender to model the SK junkyard.
This pic is completely computer-generated, the shaders emulate a classic cartoon style, some textures are "hand-painted" (i.e: the table) onto the objects and even the line strokes are made in the 3D software.
And now I can use these pictures as background art in my yitc-comic!
Drawing backgrounds consumed around ~half my time per page. Once I got this set up going, I should be able to make pages a lot faster, with even more consistency between the pages. This is not finished of course and I will keep adding elements, expanding and improving it in general. I know this still needs a lot of work, but I just wanted to give you guys and girls and nbs... something.
I am sorry for the enormous wait since the last page. But real-life kinda... sucked lately :/

So I really like this style, it's very clearly a 3d environment, but it looks like a 2d picture. Unless you're really good with art.
Would you be cool throwing this up onto GitHub and letting others use it? I'd love to play around with the shader and objects.
Highly recommend you make your sona in this style when you have a chance it's hella satisfying

Aw, glad you like it! :3
I will probably upload this somewhere at some point, but I want to get more work done before that: If you zoom out of the living room, it is rather bare-bones.
But if you really are interested, I could give you the blend file and a bit of a run down :P

Thank you very much!
When I started with the project, I was worrying all the time about not getting the toon look the way I wanted it. I nearly gave up 2 times, but there are some amazing YT tutorials out there, who kept me going.
Keep at it friend. I think working on 3D is really fun and kinda therapeutic :D
