Bad digital art program, frightening the Sans like that.
Have you tried MyPaint at all? New version out, and it's lovely for sketchy stuff (and painterly bits, supposedly...) I find it's friendly ^^

I'm not knowledgable enough about art to say exactly why I like this piece so much. However, what I can say is that I love this piece. Something about the style you've done this in, and the way you used the colors. The background and the foreground all together just set this piece off. Darn great job.
