And as promised, here is a bit of visual help to show you just what the Temple of Bastet looks like from the inside; a floor plan!
I have not drawn in the huge fountain in the entrance hall, not the big tubs with plants in them. Just use your imagination for those =~.^=

Very nice, Zin! In my mind it's definitely a beautiful, classic-looking building! I'd love to see an elevation view!
Let's see, suggestions from the engineer-snowleopard...
1: The first-priestess has to hike all the way across the temple to use the can. Might be inconvenient in the middle of the night, especially considering that it's across the open entrance hall.
2: The kitchen is a considerable distance from the den area, should they wish to gather a large number of people for a meal. Maybe a problem, maybe not, depends on how sociable they are. :)
3: A tad more ground-level storage might be a good idea, depends on how much loose gear they need for various rituals and building maintainence. Below-ground storage is good for small items, but hauling a scaffold up from the basement to repaint an upper-story wall in the entrance hall would kinda suck. xD
4: Definitely approve of the huge Library! <3

I can't believe I'd forgotten to respond to this! And I find it important enough to still do so after two months =~.^=
I really really wish I could actually draw out a more 3D-ish version of this to show the architecture of the building... but alas, my drawing skills are limited to what you see here; usage of the line tool and circle tool to make simple floor plans
As to answer your comments; not everything is indeed too clear in this floor plan, and there was not enough room to put in everything, but everything has been thought out much better than that So:
1) The toilets seen near the North Tower are actually only accessible from inside the Second Priestess quarters, and the third Second Priestess quarter has its own toilet as well though it's not shown here. Similarly, the First Priestess quarters has it's own toilet; it's not shown as well as several other features of the First Priestess quarters, but as mentioned in the story; the wall of the South tower is five feet thick, housing the circular stairs towards the second floor, and as such also not only containing several closets and such, but also a toilet
2) Perhaps it might just be possible you have not quite taken a good enough look at the explanatory words in the floor plan here, or the description in the story of when they were having breakfast, dear, but... take another look, just "above" the kitchen there... that's the Dining Hall, and that is where they have their communal breakfasts, lunches and dinners The den is for social gathering after meals; you could call it the living room^^
3) Storage, yes, there's not much of that, or at least it looks much smaller in this floor plan than it actually is. They even sacrificed some storage capacity when the Temple got more modernized over time. For instance, there was not much of a utility room before, and more storage, but they made the storage rooms around the utility room smaller so the utility room could be enlarged when they got heated running water and central heating and such. However, there is not all too much that needs to be stored int hose rooms, as a lot is also kept in the other rooms, such as items for rituals and such, which are stored in the Rituals Room, and all kinds of medical stuff that is stored directly in the Infirmary. There are large closets and such for that, which for me, fall under furniture, and that is one thing I omitted from adding into this floor plan
4) Thank you, I'm glad you like that! I love books myself, and there is definitely very, very much reading material in the Temple, both on the old times and history of their Bastet religion, the magicks they can study and perform when educated in it, of course a whole lot about cats, and much much more! Lots of study material and reference material (The Practice Hall on the second floor has even more books! )
In any way, I'm really glad you like this, and thank you so much for your input, dear! Sorry it took me so long to find out I had forgotten to respond to your comment!

Well, I'm not exactly the most prompt of felines myself, to be honest. xD I tend to much prefer napping in the sun to doing productive things, for the most part.
And I wish I could help you with that, but my skills are about the same. Only difference being that I have some rather nice software to suck WITH. XD
I think I should have spent more time examining the story, and less time critiquing the floor plans, actually. XD Five-foot-thick stone walls are pretty darn solid, I'd think, that should stop most anything short of a very determined problem, and you can't beat 'em for built-in storage! Also, made to order for all kinds of cool secret passages. :D
You can't hardly ever go wrong by having a large body of the written word at your disposal, it seems like most quests and soforth could be made MUCH simpler if the heroes/heroines would simply go hit up the library first and spend the first week of their quest reading ABOUT their quest. "Oh, it's called the 'Forest of Death and Blood' for a reason! Should probably be ready for nastiness when we go through there!" And soforth. XD
I've been delinquent in reading your new stories, I've got such a pile to catch up on now! XD

*giggles*
I can hardly blame you, dear. After all, what could beat napping in the sun! I do that all the time too, and do all my productive writing and soforth when there is no more sun to nap in Hee hee, and it is no problem; there might even be a possibility I might just become a bit better at 3D-ing furniture-filled rooms and architecture, since I am also in possession of the so well-spoken of program named Photoshop, used by professional graphic artists the world over, so when I suck, at least I do it professionally!
*chuckles softly*
Yes, I tried to show as much information about the Temple in the story, but I can readily understand that you and others might have missed a lot of it since I actually put so darn much information in there that it became quite overwhelming. And of course, the intimacy with Tali took a much higher priority of being seen than all the info about the Temple building Mmm, secret passages... hadn't really given that a lot of thought before, initially it's only the wall of the South tower being five feet thick because the staircase towards the second floor runs along the outside wall (as opposed to the staircase in the North tower, for instance, which runs inside a column in the middle of the tower). But who knows, I might revise that idea a bit and make the other walls of the building just as thick, and containing some built-in storage facility as well as some passageways...
*grins*
And of course, you are so right, but there is a reason why most heroes/heroines don't spend that much time in the library to prepare themselves for a new quest... it's boring! After all, what would sell better; a triumphant exit into the blazing sun with sword glittering after you just promised the king you'd save his daughter, and dark forests where you think you can safely settle down for the night, only to be surprised by hordes of werewolves and highwaymen and monsters and whatnot... or a story about a hero sitting in a deathly quiet room full of books, reading?
*chuckles*
Speaking of reading, though... yes, as you can tell I have been quite productive over the past two months... and the end of that bout of productivity is not in sight yet, either! Celeste has been very generous as my new muse, so there's lots of stories to come!
