This was a fun one to do. I didn't really reference any specific lore or design, but I think one of the common ideas for a Phoenix is to be a sort of raptor (bird of prey); I kinda thought a combination of the harpy eagle and secretary bird. And given what I would consider a grand sight, I didn't want to convey this presence as threatening or foreboding (though really, I don't recall Phoenixes being portrayed as malevolent anyway).
Also, I'm kinda glad that this sketch came out looking kinda dirty. I think multiple times my eyes kept getting itchy just thinking about cinders getting in them, lol.
