This is my entry for DeviantArt's Cosmic Corsair contest! How does his coat stay on? Erm, space superglue =P Come visit my DeviantArt page to see the larger version in all of its glory :)
My character is based on a deep sea dragonfish with a polychaete tomopteris for hair. I did a bit of research into bioluminescent fish since they look cool and alien, which I thought would be ideal for a space pirate design :)
The crest on his lucky hat pays homage to his somewhat primitive ancestors who roamed beneath the waves until they finally emerged from the sea. His cutlass was very much inspired by the photon-blade weapons seen in Phantasy Star Online.
The galaxy background was created using this awesome tutorial by TC-96

You know... his name reminds me of the Revenger series by Alastair Reynolds. One of the characters gets "the glowy" due to circumstances.
And it turns out there's space piracy/treasure hunting in that series too... and now I can't wait for the final Revenger book. The cliffhanger at the end of the previous one makes me want more!
