This is a commissioned character presentation created by
damiem .
This is the eighth of several character presentations that I and members of my online D&D group have commissioned Damien to depict. The adventuring party currently includes six members. (Since I am the DM, I am technically not one of them!)
As of this submission we are currently in "part two" of the campaign, The Rise of Tiamat! And as of early October, it is now our two year anniversary of running this amazing campaign practically nonstop. Hooray and thank you my friends for having such an amazing journey together!
This time the presentation is different, being that it is a (perhaps fan favorite?) NPC from the campaign book Hoard of the Dragon Queen: Langdedrosa Cyanwrath the half-dragon. (One thing to note which is non-canon is that the half-dragons in the campaign I am running all have wings.)
(WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for the D&D campaign Tyranny of Dragons.)
Lang had a very troubled history which led him into darkness. In his younger years, however, he was originally a man of ideals who yearned for recognition. After joining a mercenary company in an effort to seek adventure he soon found himself soured by misdeeds, and the result tore all of his emotions away. In fact, when his mercenary company discovered Lang's attempt at desertion, they punished him by torturing him and leaving him to rot near naked on the side of the road.
A man of means named Malachi Venri found Lang, however. (See more about Malachi OVER HERE.) Taking the young soldier under his wing, Lang respected Malachi's ambition and became extremely loyal. In fact, when it came to Malachi's singular will to hatch an ultimately misguided plan to save all of Faerun, Lang followed Malachi without question.
The two decided to join the Cult of the Dragon to enact Malachi's plan. They infiltrated the Cult so deeply into its upper echelon that the two found their identities changed. After they each experienced dark rituals as rewards from the Cult of the Dragon, the two found themselves permanently transformed into chromatic half-dragons. Malachi Venri became Razmir Ebonheart, a cultist leader bearing the Black Dragon Mask. And Lang became Razmir's muscle, the much feared warrior Langdedrosa Cyanwrath. From this point they became some of the antagonists in the Hoard of the Dragon Queen campaign.
Both Razmir and Langdedrosa raided various towns, villages, ruins, and repositories in order to gather treasure for the Cult. Eventually the two encounter the Dragon Tamers adventuring party in the town of Greenest. Being obsessed with his own strict code of honor and dueling, Langdedrosa challenged one of the adventurers, Bryant Hallister, to a duel. Being a native of Greenest, Bryant was intent on defending his home. Even more paramount was that Bryant's father was being held hostage by the cultists as the huge half-dragon and Bryant fought.
Bryant was defeated, and as Bryant's father interrupted the duel in an effort to save his son, Langdedrosa killed Bryant's father without hesitation. Not long after the cultists withdrew from Greenest, but that wasn't the last the adventuring party would see of Langdedrosa.
The party eventually encounters Langdedrosa once more in a hidden cultist hatchery where chromatic dragon eggs were being kept. Langdedrosa was supposed to be killed by the adventuring party, but the party instead chose to spare him and capture him as their prisoner. This humiliated Lang, however it did give him the opportunity to eventually reveal Razmir's true identity to the party (much to Tawga Sigadi's shock), as well as invite them to Castle Naerytar to have the cultist leader speak to the adventurers in a truce.
Langdedrosa is eventually let go by the adventuring party in Baldur's Gate, and he went on his own mission to seek out a dragon cultist who betrayed his master Malachi, the truly villainous Tylsa Stravenger. By the end of the Hoard of the Dragon Queen, the party discovers that Stravenger is the ultimate antagonist, and she is finally slain in a climatic battle in the floating Skyreach Castle.
Nine years after the events of the Hoard of the Dragon Queen, later referred by Sword Coast historians as the Cult Crisis, Langdedrosa becomes a reformed dragon cultist, joining the Liberation Army in an effort to fight the New Dragon Dominion and its evil empire. Seeking redemption and having a character arc on his own through different adventures, he has sworn his fierce loyalty to the Dragon Tamers adventuring party. In addition, Byrant Hallister, having become a fully fledged Sun Soul monk, also forgave Langdedrosa for his crimes in Greenest after the two engaged in a second duel (which Bryant won).
Langdedrosa Cyanwrath originally started with the Lawful Evil alignment, but it eventually changed to Lawful Neutral thanks to the many efforts of the Dragon Tamers interacting with him. He is a functioning sociopath who admits that he has trouble experiencing feelings, especially since his transformation into a blue half-dragon has given him an undeniable bloodlust. His increased physical strength has allowed him to wield both a spear in one hand and a greatsword in the other, turning him into a horrifying tornado in the battlefield. In addition to his ability to fly short distances and his ability to breathe lightning, thanks to special training he has honed a new skill to channel magical electricity into his very weapons.

There is one more art piece I am going to post but it's of one of the PC's, so it doesn't have to do with the campaign itself. This is the only NPC art piece we have commissioned, so I don't have any others, but it might could make a nice reference for you and your fellows!
