Casting silicone pawpad: steps
Making my own silicone pawpads.
LT: Paw pads are made using apoxy sculpt.
RT: A silicone negative of the apoxy sculpt is made.
LM: The master silicone pads are casted using the silicone negative and mineral oil, the negative is sacrificed in the process.
RM: A epoxy negative of the master silicone pads are made. This is the permanent, reusable mold for casting many silicone pads.
LB: A silicone pad tinted black with Fe3O4 powder is being casted using the epoxy mold. As a side effect of using Fe3O4 the paw pads are weakly ferromagnetic.
RB: The final result of mass produced black silicone pads.
This whole process is so complicated because apoxy sculpt sticks to epoxy, and silicone cast sticks to silicone mold making it impossible to cast silicone with silicone without damaging the mold.
