There were some proportion changes that changed the pic a bit - longer lower leg, slightly bigger head, bigger hat thingy (those things have a name - can't recall it right now), changed window area, extended frame area, and stuff. Erasing stuff. Painting stuff. That kind of thing. ^_^
I suppose I personally prefer this approach you do. Your linework is solid, and it's nice when it takes center stage. This image is reminiscent of some stuff I've seen in old issues of Dragon magazine. (Sorry my first comment was so lame, I was dead tired when I initially saw it)
