The decades spent traveling with the little forest whelp Ollimar had been a chore. It was bad enough trying to keep his stubborn beast of a sister in line, but Cain had been convinced from the start that the pathetic green whelp should have had its neck crushed immediately.
Still, once the little wyrm had learned to speak only when necessary, Cain had found him rather useful and resourceful. Ollimar knew every forest as if he'd lived there his entire, albeit short, life. Somehow, the little cretin could read every tree like a book, providing useful insight to the earth dragon, despite how well traveled Cain was.
It was the incessant chirping and squawking that infuriated the old brown. The green constantly spoke of the sanctity of life... How slaughtering their lessers was somehow beneath them..? Endless absurdities constantly cascaded from the green's muzzle whenever he was given the opportunity to preach his nonsense about empathy and compassion. Though his sister, Kaira, would idly listen to the child ramble, Cain had little patience for such banal, idealistic rubbish.
The strong prey upon the weak. A forest dragon was a being of nature. Why couldn't they understand such an obvious, universal truth? The delusion, Cain decided, came only from the fact that the little greens were not at the top of the food chain. Were the forest wyrms the only species of dragon, Cain was convinced they wouldn't be nearly so self righteous and "benevolent".
The fact that this weak, frail, green whelp dared to seek him out and travel with them was insulting enough to make Cain want to remove Ollimar's little throat. And yet, the old brown drake found himself impressed as he watched the arrogant youth grow before his eyes.
Initially a sniveling coward of a forest drake, Ollimar grew into a fierce, powerful dragon, due certainly to Cain's harsh tutelage. The green was going to be the strongest of his kind, both in body and in will, and the earth dragon wasn't above taking full credit for his ascension.
As the decades passed, his disdain for the green waned, the brown tyrant softening to his presence and constant need for conversation. Though Cain would never admit it aloud, he found himself often grateful for the green's company and the companionship of another male dragon.
Ollimar, ever delusional, eventually voiced that he considered Cain and himself friends. A preposterous notion, one that Cain should have set straight by crushing the green's skull beneath his foot. Instead, the elder brown would only grunt and roll his eyes.
Deep down, the brown cursed himself for allowing someone to get close. He cursed and resented the green for tainting him with his silly notions of camaraderie. He didn't NEED friends. He didn't need anything, or anyone. But he wasn't willing to jeopardize this truce. For the first time since he could recall, the reclusive brown felt wanted. He wasn't prepared to give that up.

Love how Cain came out here. Looking both a bit more patient yet beastly with them fangs jutting out a bit like that.
